News about rainforests has rarely been good lately in mainstream media. But here’s a story that might give you a reason to stay positive.
While rainforests are being destroyed at alarming rates all over the world, a little miracle happened not so long ago in the heart of Belice. In 2021 more than a dozen conservation organizations from all over the world got together to buy a stretch of land of over 95’000 hectares. This territory is now called the Belize Maya Forest and it is protected for perpetuity. It is home to a breathtaking amount of biodiversity ranging from plants, birds and mammals, including the iconic jaguar.
Our goal is to take you on a journey deep into the heart of the forest, where we will learn about the successes and challenges that still stand in the way of preserving this beautiful oasis. We will learn about the people who lived here before and more importantly about those who live there today. We will learn from those who work everyday to preserve the forest and other wild habitats, and we will meet local communities to learn how they are affected by the creation of this reserve. We will learn how conservationists work together with locals to ensure a sustainable preservation effort that benefits everyone.
Get ready for an epic dive under the canopy which will unveil an inspiring story of dedication and collective efforts.
